GCSE Results 2023: Taaleem group celebrates 100% pass rate across all schools

by Tabitha BardaAugust 24, 2023

The first series of GCSE and IGCSE results are in! Although exam boards had primed students to expect a significant drop in top grades, the Taaleem group of schools in the UAE is triumphantly celebrating a 100% pass rate today, with one institution even managing to achieve the best GCSE results in its history.

Taaleem group leaders are understandably proud, celebrating the robustness and ‘indomitable spirit’ of its education community, despite the challenges and fears about plummeting performance.

Triumph against adversity

Exam board regulator Ofqual’s announcement that this year would see the return to pre-pandemic grading systems in an effort to combat the grade inflation seen over the Covid years sent shockwaves through the global education community.

Many commentators argued that it was too soon to implement stricter marking schemes, and that it would be unfair, since students sitting their exams this year are still very much living with the after-effects of pandemic disruption.

However, many UAE schools seem to have escaped unscathed by the grading crackdown, with education groups such as Taaleem even celebrating the best GCSE results ever at some schools.

Rebecca Gray, Director of Education – Taaleem, told SchoolsCompared:

“The results this year, against the backdrop of the turbulence experienced during their formative academic years, are a testament to their character and the calibre of the education provided by their teachers and the support of their parents.

“In an era that has tested us in unprecedented ways, it is encouraging to witness such academic success. It speaks volumes not only about our students’ capabilities but also about the robustness and resilience of our educational community.

“We are optimistic about the future, trusting that our students, equipped with the skills and knowledge they have gained at school, will go on to make significant contributions to society.

“For those seeking an unparalleled British educational experience in the region, the achievement of our UK Curriculum Schools stands as a testament to what is achievable when passion meets perseverance.”

Glen Radojkovich Deputy Director of Ed, Director of IB and UK Schools, added:

“Our school leaders have rightly commented on the indomitable spirit, perseverance, and determination our students have displayed throughout these challenging times.

“It is with immense pleasure and pride to announce that our students at our UK Curriculum Schools have once again showcased exceptional academic prowess in their BTEC, and GCSE examinations. Their accomplishments this year are especially commendable given the return to pre-pandemic grading standards.

“We are delighted to highlight the 100% pass rate, reflecting the dedication, tenacity, and resilience of our student body.

“I am particularly proud of the record achievement of our Dubai British School, Emirates Hills achieving the best GCSE results in the school’s history. Over 40% of students achieved grades of 8s and 9s, and more than 80% secured grades of 6s and above.”

GCSE results will be officially released to all students across the world at 11am UAE time today. Stay tuned for our minute-by-minute live coverage, as we bring the results from every UAE school as they come in.
