School Cancelled Next Week for Many Families
Back to School has been delayed again as families across the UAE are battling to return to normal after some of the worst storms and floods in UAE history. Many parents remain stranded in buildings, others are battling electricity failures – and roads in some areas remain impassable. From cars damaged beyond repair, to families losing all their belongings, the impacts of the storms – and the severe damage that flooding has caused, are likely to require weeks, not days to resolve.
The KHDA has issue an urgent advisory to all school in Dubai, recognising the major impact on families, students, teachers and all school staff. Schools have been instructed to offer Distance Learning to all families who continue to suffer from the after effects of the floods and storms – and no child will be marked down for absence as a result of not being able to attend school. Equally, allowances must be made for all teachers or other staff who simply cannot return to work on next week.
The full announcement follows:
The key message is that no family, student, teacher or member of school staff should be placing themselves at risk – and that schools must be ready to provide some form of Distance Learning or other support for those who cannot attend school next week.
This is a fast moving news environment and will be updated as we receive further information from schools, the government, KHDA and authorities.
