Best Leagues, Competitions for School Sports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Middle East South Asia Conference (MESAC)

MESAC was established in 2010 and currently includes Dubai American Academy, (DAA), the American School of Doha, (ASDo), the American School of Dubai (ASD), American Community School, Abu Dhabi (ACS), American Embassy School, New Delhi (AES), and the American British IB World School, Muscat (ABA).

Events are divided into Junior Varsity (grades 8-10) and Varsity (grades 11-12). They are organised on a termly basis and cover the following sports:  Badminton, Basketball, Cross-Country, Golf, Soccer/Football, Softball/Baseball, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field, Volleyball and Wrestling.

Though Athletics activities are included in the sports on offer from DASSA, there does not appear to be the same level of focus as among the US- curriculum dominated schools and the Conference – modelled very strongly on the competitive school sports approach in the USA – is designed to address this with a focus on Athletics, Softball, Volleyball, Basketball and Swimming.

Near East Schools Activities Conference (NESAC)

The Conference  aims to promote collaboration and leadership initiatives amongst student participants. School members, again, include predominantly US curriculum schools from the Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Current members are the American School of Kuwait, the American International School of Kuwait, Qatar Academy, The American International School of Riyadh, GEMS World Academy Dubai and Universal American School Dubai.

The following sports are offered and competed for at Conference events held across the schools: Badminton, Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball, Varsity Football, Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball, Track and Field (Sprint, Long Distance, Jumps and Throws) and Swimming.

Age Levels: Junior Varsity (Grade 9-10) / Varsity (Grade 11-12)

For each sport, students participate in a 3 day International Tournament hosted by one of the member schools. At these tournaments teams play multiple games in a round robin format against the other member schools. On the third and final day, teams are seeded based on their round robin play and compete in a 1 day knockout tournament to award the Championship banners and travelling plaques.

Teams also compete for Sportsmanship banners, which are handed out to the teams which best represent the values of the organization and whose students have demonstrated fair play throughout the competition. These awards are voted on by the participating schools.
