Emirates Athletic Conference (EAC)

Recently established by the (mainly) US curriculum schools including Dubai American Academy (DAA) , GEMS World Academy Dubai (GWA), American School of Dubai (ASD), American Community School (ACS), and Universal American School (UAS), the focus in very much on Track and Field together with Swimming.

The Conference appears to be a development from MESAC/NESAC (the Middle East and Near East Schools Activities Conferences) which have been established for a number of years, with a redirection of the focus towards UAE-based schools only and the opportunities, therefore, for local schools to compete more frequently with each-other. On-line information is not currently available for the Conference as a whole, but individual school websites do post updates.  The participants of EAC also compete international competitions through MESAC or NESAC.

Activities offered: Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Swimming, Track & Field, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Golf. Age Levels: Middle School (Grade 6-8) / Junior Varsity (Grade 9-10) / Varsity (Grade 11-12).

For each sport, students participate in competitive weekly exchanges (matches/games) against a member school. The results are tabulated in a league table format. Midway through the season all schools come together for Invitational tournaments held during the weekend at one of the member schools. At these tournaments, teams play multiple games in one day against the other member schools.

At the end of each season, based on the league results 4 out of the 5 schools qualify for the EAC Championship tournament and play in a 1 day knockout tournament to award the Championship banners.  The American School of Dubai (ASD) and American Community School, Abu Dhabi (ACS), consistently take the honours.

The Junior Emirates Athletics Conference (JEAC)

Members are the same as those for the Emirates Athletic Conference but aimed at Elementary and Lower Middle School students.

JEAC offers students in grades 4-6 an opportunity to have fun, participate in and learn the fundamental skills of soccer, track and field, swimming and basketball. The focus of JEAC is to reinforce the value of sportsmanship, respect, teamwork and self-discipline through healthy and fair competition.

In Grades 4 and 5, the JEAC program is entirely inclusive and accommodating of all ability levels. It is focused on commitment to a team, fostering the enjoyment of organised sport, fundamental skill development, sportsmanship and learning through game play.

In Grade 6, the focus is to continue the development begun in grades four and five and to introduce concepts of healthy, safe competition. Ability levels are identified and teams formed in preparation for competition, jamborees. The emphasis is still focused on fundamental development with an introduction to competition preparation for the selective school programs beginning at the U14 level.
