A Level Results Day: Gasps of joy as 1 in 5 pupils achieve A* at Brighton College Abu Dhabi

by Tabitha BardaAugust 17, 2023

Brighton College Abu Dhabi (BCAD) is today celebrating its students’ stellar A Level results, with one in five grades awarded an A*.

Although 2023’s grades were expected to fall down to 2019 levels, the percentage of top grades achieved this year has smashed the results BCAD saw in 2019 (the most accurate comparison to this year’s examination results), with 20% of A Levels awarded A* grades in 2023 compared with 11.5% in 2019. A whopping 45% of results achieved were A* to A, another improvement on the 41% A* to A seen in 2019.

Many of the thrilled pupils will now progress to some of the best universities around the world, including Oxbridge and Ivy League universities. Brighton College Abu Dhabi says the Class of 2023 holds over 100 offers from UK-based Russell Group Universities and are expected to go on to study at universities including Exeter, Manchester, UCL, Leeds, Durham and King’s College, London. Beyond the UK, pupils will attend prestigious institutions including Berkley, Dartmouth, UCLA, Purdue, University of Toronto, University of Geneva and Rome University of the Arts.

This year also saw the largest cohort of 17 pupils applying for Medicine and related fields of study, and proud BCAD students have met the conditions of offers to study Medicine at universities including Cambridge, St Andrews, Imperial, Queen’s Belfast, Leicester and Aston.

BCAD told SchoolsCompared that pupils in Year 13 deserve special recognition because, for most of them, this was the first examination season they have completed, having not had the opportunity to site their GCSE examinations due to Covid.

In addition to the A level results, 71% of EPQs (Extended Project Qualification) were awarded an A* or A in the school’s largest EPQ entry to date.
