Schools are Go! KHDA confirms ELC and school restrictions lifted on January 31st 2022.

The KHDA have officially confirmed that restrictions in schools on Physical Education, gatherings, trips, ECAs and cafeterias are officially over from Monday 31st January 2022.

The tweet announcing the decision reads:

“Thanks to the support & cooperation of parents, educators & students, PE lessons, gatherings, trips and extra-curricular activities can resume from Jan 31.

Canteens & eating areas can reopen.

This applies to all private schools, early childhood centres & universities in Dubai.”

The advice follows the agreement of the Dubai Government authorities, but comes with the proviso that, beyond this, schools and Early Learning Centres must “continue to take all necessary precautions to ensure that children and staff stay safe” and that the vital continuation of “face-to-face teaching and learning” is contingent on respecting the current rules and Covid-19 case numbers and severity remaining manageable.

The news has been greeted with relief by parents, including on the opening of cafeterias.

One parent told SchoolsCompared:

“It has been taking me hours to prepare food every week for my children. It has become a game of one-upmanship to who can produce the best, and best looking, hot meals for children.

The stress of cutting out cookies in different interesting shapes every day, making hot soup – and then making the whole thing look like it came out of a restaurant has honestly given me sleepless nights. Getting these cafeterias open is the best news so far this year. #FirstWorld Problems.”
