School Fees Rise in Dubai Schools Rejected by KHDA. Parents call for Reductions as Costs of Running Schools actually Fall.

by Tabitha BardaMarch 1, 2022

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai’s school regulator, has ruled that private schools in Dubai cannot increase tuition fees for the 2022-2023 academic year.

KHDA School Fees - no rise allowed for Dubai schools

The decision is based on the annual Education Cost Index (ECI), a figure calculated by the Dubai Statistics Centre. This measures annual changes in the costs of running a school, including salaries, rent and utilities. The ECI for this year stands at -1.01 per cent.

The news has already been greeted by some parents arguing that fees should actually now be reduced to reflect the actual lowering of costs faced by schools. Other parents, speaking with SchoolsCompared.com, expressed relief:

“We are still coming out of Covid and the last thing we needed was increases in fees. This has absolutely made our day.”

Mohammed Darwish, CEO of the Regulations and Permits Commission, KHDA said:

“This announcement shows Dubai’s commitment to ensuring that the private school sector continues to deliver value to parents, investors and school operators.”

This is the second consecutive year the KHDA has rejected calls by schools to increase fees with school fees now to remain static for three years.
