Dubai College is celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results – but it is the astonishing achievement of students in the face of both Covid-19 and the adjustment of grades by OFQUAL, the UK government’s qualifications regulator, across all British curriculum school, that makes the achievement all the more remarkable and creditable.
The combination of this level of achievement, together with a stellar commitment to the whole child and broader cultural development of students, that saw Dubai College securing The SchoolsCompared.com Top Schools Award for Best British Curriculum School in the UAE 2021-22.
Michael Lambert (main picture), Headmaster of Dubai College, told SchoolsCompared:
“Our Year 11s are absolute troopers.
To have achieved these outstanding GCSE results after 24 months behind masks, on and offline, in and out of school, with and without COVID, has added even greater value to their outcomes.
It is an unfortunate truth that resilience can only really be taught through bitter experience.
So it is that our Year 11s enter the final frontier of their secondary education wiser than their predecessors and I believe, I hope, this will stand them in good stead during their Sixth Form careers and beyond.”
Kathryn Hill, Head of Year 11 and Middle School, Dubai College, continued:
“We congratulate our students for their stellar results, released today.
An outstanding 82.28% of all I/GCSE examinations were graded 9 or 8, significantly above our 2019 percentage, the last year in which students physically sat their examinations.
With 58% of all examination entries graded 9 and with 21 students achieving a full set of grade 9s (up from 18 students in 2019) and a further 27 achieving grades 9/8, this year group can look forward with confidence to the year ahead and the start of their A Level courses.
The diligence, dedication and sheer hard work shown by this cohort of young people is exceptional.
They are a year group who have had to work through their entire GCSE courses dealing with masks, social distancing and the ever-present threat of ten days online as close contact or suffering from covid themselves.
They have weathered so many storms in the last two years, showing amazing resilience and they truly deserve these excellent results.
We are proud of each and every one of them and wish them great success in the next stage of their education.”
