“Our boys and girls have done GEMS Modern Academy proud on the world’s stage yet again” – Nargish Khambatta on GMA’s IB results success

by Tabitha BardaJuly 6, 2023

GEMS Modern Academy (GMA) is celebrating its impressive IB results today, which have smashed global averages even though marking has been tougher in 2023 than in recent years.

The grading allowances set during the pandemic have been dropped this year, meaning that 2023 results across the board are slightly lower than in the past three years of COVID-related grade inflation.

Nevertheless, 16% of GMA students still managed to score a staggering 40 points or more, with more than half of the 2023 cohort of 116 candidates getting 35 or more (almost 5 points above the global average) and 84% scoring 30 points or more (in line with or above the global average of 30.24).

Nargish Khambatta, Principal of GMA and Senior Vice President – Education, GEMS Education, could not be more delighted with her students:

“This is yet another remarkable achievement by our students – their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme results substantially exceed global benchmarks and reflect our faculty’s unwavering dedication to our students’ success year after year.

“Witnessing their outstanding all-round performance reaffirms our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.

“These results are a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated educators, supportive parents, and, above all, the remarkable talents and determination of our students.
“Congratulations to every one of our boys and girls, their remarkable accomplishments have done Modern proud on the world’s stage, yet again.”

“Grateful for a transformative experience”

The triumphant graduates are thrilled with their exam success, with many crediting both the school and the IB for life changing experiences. Student Paridhi Bhatia told SchoolsCompared:

“As I head to university, I’m grateful for the transformative experiences at GEMS Modern Academy. The nurturing environment, supportive teachers, and friendships shaped me personally and academically. The IBDP taught me perseverance, critical thinking, and time management. Collaborating on the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge with my peers was invaluable. The memories, knowledge, and support from GMA will always be cherished as I move forward in life.”

Fellow student, Vismay, adds:

“My 12-year journey at GEMS Modern Academy shaped my career trajectory. The relationships I built with friends and teachers had a profound impact on my decisions as an adult and leader. The IBDP ignited my thirst for learning, innovation, and personal growth. Now, as I prepare to study Computer Science and Computational Biology at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I feel confident in my ability to make a meaningful impact on the world.”

Subject breadth for future success

The IBDP is well known for its subject breadth, which is something that will fare GMA IB graduates well in the future, say GMA teachers.

On the importance of studying maths, Vice Principal of GMA, John Gomes, says:

“In the ever-evolving landscape of today’s world, the importance of IBDP Mathematics stands as a beacon, illuminating the path to academic and personal growth. As we celebrate our students today, we are extremely proud of them for what they have achieved over the last two years. Mathematics not only equips them with numerical prowess, but also nurtures critical thinking, logical reasoning, and the tools of problem-solving, enabling them to navigate the complexities of our digital age, embrace innovation, and shape a future driven by mathematical literacy.”

On the importance of studying science, Vinaya Jaydev, Assistant DP Coordinator, says:

“Science is more than laws and facts. It’s about uncovering hidden information, understanding complex theories, and appreciating collaboration. IB students learn perseverance and trial-and-error approaches. Congratulations to all our IBDP graduates. They are future scientists, creators, educators, and entrepreneurs who will leave their mark on the world.”

And on the crucial importance of Information Technology, Ritesh Dhanak, CIDO and ITGS and DS facilitator, says:

“The Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS) course empowers students to thrive in the digital age by exploring the profound impact of technology on individuals, communities, and a global society. Through a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach, students develop critical thinking skills and gain a comprehensive perspective on the contextual implications of IT systems. With a focus on real-world application and a global outlook, ITGS equips students with essential skills for future studies and careers in technology, social sciences, law, and business. The remarkable achievements of ITGS students reflect their deep understanding and ability to navigate the complexities of our digital world.”

One particularly proud parent told SchoolsCompared that the IB opened up a wealth of opportunities for her daughter:

“GEMS Modern Academy has played a remarkable role in shaping my daughter’s personal growth, making her a capable and confident individual, even at a young age. Her time in the Diploma Programme has not only opened up a world of opportunities, but also helped her develop leadership skills, foster self-growth, and enhance her interpersonal abilities. Beyond academics, she has formed lasting friendships and relationships.

“Studying at GEMS Modern Academy has stimulated her mind and honed her critical thinking skills, resulting in her excelling in various activities both in and outside school. She approaches every task with dedication, passion, and personal sacrifice.

“The regular involvement of the school’s principal, supervisors, and teachers with the students and parents has ensured that each child’s potential is nurtured. The values of integrity, humility, passion, and accountability have been instilled, fostering strong bonds within the school community.

“As a proud alumna of GEMS Modern Academy, my daughter is well-prepared to embark on her next chapter at University of Notre Dame in the US.”
