GEMS Education is celebrating absolutely outstanding achievements by its “hugely talented”, “innovative” and “quite amazing” students across its seven IB schools in a year that will be known for grade levels that returned the IB to all the challenges of the Pre-Covid years. This year saw a return to the pre-pandemic assessment process, with all components of the exams completed in full. Creditably too, 2023 may well be the year that the hugely inspirational International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme takes on a strength and purpose it surely deserves, as GEMS students outperformed international averages and demonstrated “quite exceptional levels of technical achievement and innovation.” Traditional International Baccalaureate Diploma students were the icing on the cake, achieving an average pass rate of 92% – and an outstanding average point score of 32.8.

Graduating students at all seven GEMS schools offering the IB were celebrated by teachers, their families, school leaders and GEMS Education HQ:

Shock and Awe – a thrilled GEMS Modern student achieves the extraordinary on a day that GEMS Education releases official statement recognising the outstanding achievements of students across its IB schools.

This is also the year in which GEMS students sitting for Advanced Placement – the gold standard IB Courses and A Level equivalent in US education, secured remarkably against UAE and global benchmarks – and in a qualification pathway now opening doors for GEMS students to some of the best university and industry destinations worldwide.

A total of 605 Grade 12/Year 13 students from seven GEMS schools sat exams for the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP), up from 533 in the 2022 academic year. With an average point score of 32.8 and a pass rate of 92 per cent, GEMS students again outperformed world averages. One student, from GEMS Wellington International School in Dubai, achieved the highest score possible of 45 Points – a feat achieved by only around 200 students globally each year. You can learn how this translates into degree expectations at one of the world’s top universities, Cambridge, here.

Dr Rana continued:

“Our IB graduates have proven time and again that this qualification is a gateway to brilliant futures, creating powerful citizens fearlessly facing the world with unwavering determination and a commitment to values that resonate with compassion, integrity, and intellectual excellence.

Through their rigorous academic journey, they have honed critical thinking skills, fostered cultural appreciation, and embraced diversity as a cornerstone of progress.”

Dr Rana continued by explaining how GEMS students now have opportunities to change our world for the better, backed with qualifications and an ethical underpinning in “giving back” integral to the education across GEMS schools:

“Our IB alumni have emerged as powerful and influential figures, blazing trails in various fields, leaving an indelible mark on society. Their success is a testament to the transformative power of the IB programme and the enduring impact of a GEMS education that nurtures holistic development and inspires greatness. As we witness the ripple effect of their accomplishments, we, as an education community, stand with immense pride, knowing that our students are beacons of hope and catalysts for positive change in our ever-evolving world. Well done!”

Saatvik Sharma, a delighted student at GEMS Modern Academy, scored a hugely creditable 42 points, and is now heading to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) to study Finance. Mr Sharma told us:

“I feel ecstatic and relieved now that this chapter of my life has come to a close. It’s wonderful to see my hard work and dedication pay off. I look forward to university life and will carry the skills learnt during IB forever with me.”

Student Chloe Dsouza of GEMS Modern Academy celebrates her exceptional success in the International Baccalaureate Diploma on IB Results Day 2023.

Chloe Dsouza, also of GEMS Modern Academy, scored an equally impressive 41 points and is on her way to the University of Notre Dame(NDU) in Indiana to major in Applied Mathematics.

Miss Dsouza told SchoolsCompared:

“It’s been such a journey; I know all of us have come such a long way since we started the Diploma Programme. I am very relieved and overjoyed with my results. This would not have been possible without the support of my friends, family, and teachers.”

International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme

28 top performing students from two outstanding GEMS Education schools:

Advanced Placement – the pinnacle of a US academic education

Also released on the same day as the IB exam results, the United States’ College Board released Advanced Placement (AP) examination results.

GEMS Al Khaleej International School in Dubai recorded its best-ever AP results. A total of 63 candidates sat the Advanced Placement examinations achieving an average score of 3.44 out of a possible 5. This exceeded the UAE average score of 2.73 and the global average of 3.13.
