Student Kushal Sodum of GEMS Modern Academy achieved the highest possible point score of 45 and will be heading to the University of Michigan in the US to study Mechanical Engineering. He told us:
“It feels crazy. I never expected this in my wildest dreams. You can’t expect something like this, you can only hope for it. University is a big step and change of pace. I’m excited and a little bit nervous, being so far from home, but it’s going to be a good challenge. I joined GEMS Modern Academy in second grade and it’s like a second home, so it’s going to be hard leaving, but that’s life!”
GEMS Modern Academy students achieved an average score of 36.1, GEMS Wellington International School students an average score of 35.9 and GEMS Dubai American Academy an average score of 35.4.
Nargish Khambatta, Principal, GEMS Modern Academy and Vice President – Education, GEMS Education, said:
“This has truly been the ‘batch of stoics’ and we’ve been amazed at their resilience and ability to stay calm and work around any situation they faced. We are so proud of every single one of them, as they have all been such troopers.
There are so many heartening stories to share, and on behalf of our entire school community I extend our congratulations to all our future positive changemakers.
Besides getting sterling results, students like Shreyas Sharma, who has been admitted to Stanford University, achieved so much on their own merit through the pandemic period – Shreyas founded the Emirates Debate Society, with over 400 members from 48 schools, and was a member of the UAE Debate Team 2022.
A big shout out, too, to our DP Coordinator and Supervisor, who helped students navigate the process and, along with our teachers, motivated students and kept their morale high. Their role needs to be acknowledged and celebrated.”
Dr Sunipa Neogi, IBDP Coordinator, GEMS Modern Academy:
“Modern’s seventh set of IB Diploma Programme results is outstanding.
Of the 87 candidates registered for the May 2022 session, 77 are Diploma candidates and 10 are Course candidates. The average overall point score obtained by Diploma candidates was 36.1 points.
In addition, 25% of our candidates achieved 40 points or higher, 50% achieved 35 points or higher and 93.5% achieved 30 points or higher.
Our topper is Kushal Sodum, who secured 45 out of a maximum of 45 points.
Congratulations to all our students and teachers on a wonderful two-year journey together towards these excellent outcomes. The journey has been full of unexpected experiences, which they turned into opportunities.
We wish all of them good luck and success as they move onto the next stage of life.”

Dr Saima Rana, Principal/CEO, GEMS World Academy – Dubai and Vice President – Education, GEMS Education:
“The graduating class of 2022 have truly embraced the rigours of the International Baccalaureate throughout their time in the Diploma Programme. They have not only worked towards the highest level of academic achievement expected of GEMS World Academy – Dubai graduates, but also pursued excellence in entrepreneurial endeavours, community and social impact, developing their passion for mother tongue languages, and excelling in athletic and artistic activities. It is not lost on any of our GWA community how many challenges our graduates have had to overcome during this unique time in education, but our students met these trials with an incredible amount of grace and strength that very few educators are able to witness first hand. We are so proud of our newest GWA alumni and look forward to continuing to connect and support them as they pursue their passions at their fantastic university destinations around the world.”
Chris Nitsche, IBDP Coordinator, GEMS World Academy – Dubai:
“As head of the IB Diploma Programme at GEMS World Academy – Dubai, I am immensely proud of the students’ achievements and accomplishments. They have worked tirelessly over the two years of the programme and their results demonstrate this. I am delighted for each and every one of them and share immense pride in the university destinations and courses that they will go on to study. They will all go on to have outstanding successes and I look forward to welcoming them back as GEMS alumni.”

“After the late disturbance to the IBDP exam session last year, we could have forgiven our Year 13 cohort for being nervous this year. While they may have carried nerves into the exams, they also carried a confidence, belief and conduct that showed what an excellent year group they are.
We cannot forget that this cohort has never sat formal exams, but the way in which they approached this session has us all very proud.
We are delighted to see so many of our learners achieve such incredible diploma scores and to hear of their next destinations – London, Cardiff, Dublin, Toronto, British Columbia, Amsterdam – to take courses as wide ranging as law, aerospace engineering, medicine, design, animation, journalism and dentistry, makes us even more proud and excited for them. The IB Class of 2022 is one that has overcome many hurdles over the past two years.
They should be as proud of themselves as we are of them.”
Joel Nainie, IBDP Coordinator and Teacher of English and Theory of Knowledge, GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis:
“The WSO Year 13 cohort have worked extremely hard across their two-year IBDP journey, negotiating the trials and tribulations of Covid, the pressure of meeting competing deadlines, the challenge of examinations. In the process, they have shown remarkable resilience and agility.
We are confident that the personal attributes embedded in the IB Learner Profile and developed by the Post-16 experience have nurtured students who are critical and creative thinkers, principled and open-minded, with a strong sense of social justice and environmental responsibility.
Equipped with these skills and values, we are positive that our Year 13 students will transition confidently and successfully to tertiary education and beyond.”

Simon Herbert, Head of School/CEO, GEMS International School – Al Khail:
“I am delighted by this set of results, which once again places GEMS International School well above the world average for IB Average Point Score. Our students have worked so hard and shown extraordinary resilience. These students, and their teachers, were commended by the Council of International Schools, for their commitment and focus on learning throughout the last two years, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
I would like to reiterate this and am proud that they have achieved the results and placements that they so richly deserve. Our school culture of Respect, Trust and Ambition has been modelled by these graduates and we wish them the very best in the next stage of their lives.”
Adam Rooney, Diploma Coordinator, GEMS International School – Al Khail:
“We are delighted with the results of our Diploma students this year. The Class of 2022 has shown resilience throughout the pandemic years, and as GIS’ second exam-route cohort, they have out-performed all expectations, especially when compared with the Class of 2019. They go into the world prepared for whatever the next chapter brings.”
Tara Krikhaar, student at GEMS International School – Al Khail, with an IBDP score of 42:
“After receiving my results today, I feel so proud of myself to have achieved what I have been working so hard on for the past two years! It has truly paid off, giving me the motivation to continue working hard to achieve my dreams in the future.”
Abdallah Awwad, student at GEMS International School – Al Khail, with an IBDP score of 40:
“I am proud of my academic achievements at the end of DP and am grateful to the friends and teachers that enabled me during my high school years.”
Riad Nassri, student at GEMS International School – Al Khail, with an IBDP score of 40:
“GIS has been my home for the past six years. It taught me valuable life lessons and allowed me to experience true belongingness in a welcoming community that truly cares.
At GIS, I was able to make mistakes but nevertheless succeed in the end. I took pride in helping others and was constantly recognised for my commitments to the school. I was always encouraged to take risks and try new things, which built on my resilience and curiosity as a student.
Without the constant support and guidance from my mentors and peers, I would not have made it to where I am now. I was not only able to grow on an academic level, but also on a personal level.
With countless opportunities to explore new interests, GIS has prepared me to move on to the next step in my intellectual journey – and for that, I will always be grateful.”

“We are delighted to share that 95% of our students have passed their International Baccalaureate Diploma, achieving an average point score of 35.9, well above the world average of 31.9. Our highest scoring students achieved 44 points.
These are academically challenging courses, and I am incredibly proud of all our students who have worked so hard, showing grit and determination.
Congratulations to this year’s graduating class for their amazing achievements, and thanks to our passionate hardworking teachers for their inspiration and to our families and parents for their ongoing support.
This year’s students thoroughly deserve their success and can look forward to bright futures.”
Kavita Bedi, IBDP Coordinator, GEMS Wellington International School:
“We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students and would like to congratulate them on their brilliant IB exam results. Patil Djerdjerian, student at GEMS Wellington International School, achieved a score of 44 and now heading to Harvard University to major in Economics:
“I’m ecstatic and so happy that all the hard work has paid off in the end. I stayed up all night trying to predict what I’d get, and I’m just so grateful for my score and for my teachers that helped me get here today. I really have no words to express how much I appreciate my teachers’ hard work and guidance over the years. We’ll always keep in touch. I joined WIS in Year 1 and have been here for 13 years, so leaving is bittersweet for me, but I’m also excited to go to Harvard University and see what this new chapter has in store.”
Daniel Djerdjerian, student at GEMS Wellington International School and twin brother of the school’s topper, Patil Djerdjerian. Daniel scored 41 in his IBDP and is now heading to University of California, Los Angeles to major in Economics:
“I’m really proud of the score I’ve achieved, and I feel like the work I’ve put in has paid off. I’d like to thank all my teachers who supported me throughout the two-year process. For me, it’s very emotional to be leaving school, because I’ve been here since Year 1. But I’m looking forward to my future at UCLA, most likely majoring in Economics.”
