IB Results 2023: DIA Emirates Hills smashes global average, with more than 20% of students scoring 40 or above

by Tabitha BardaJuly 6, 2023

More than 20% of students at Dubai International Academy (DIA) Emirates Hills scored 40 or above in the IBDP results this year – an extraordinary feat, considering that the global average is 30.24, and that the DIA average figure is taken from across a significant total cohort of 129 students.

Hitesh Bhagat, School Principal expressed great pride in the accomplishments of the students, stating:

“Our students’ outstanding performance in their final examinations demonstrates their discipline and unwavering commitment to academic excellence. These results reflect the exceptional teaching and learning environment at DIA Emirates Hills, where we strive to provide a well-rounded education that fosters intellectual growth, critical thinking, and personal development.”

The Deputy Head of Academics (Year 12-13), Ms. Claire Inglis, shared insights into the exceptional academic standards maintained at DIA, stating:

“The dedication of our highly qualified and passionate faculty, along with the supportive and stimulating learning environment we provide, has undoubtedly contributed to these exceptional results.”

IB DP Coordinator, Dr. Kanchi Das adds:
“These exceptional results have been possible because of teamwork and strategic planning. Every student was able to flourish in their own way. I am delighted with our student achievements and wish them the very best for the future. These results are special for the DIA community”.

However, it’s not only a spirit of academic excellence that contributed to these impressive results, according to DIA students. Head Boy Siddhant Tandon – who secured a place at Oxford University with his results – credits the collegiate and supportive atmosphere of the school for helping him to achieve his potential:

“This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support and guidance of my teachers. I am also indebted to my fellow students, who pushed me to reach new heights and inspired me with their own achievements. Together, we formed a community that celebrated academic success, fostered a spirit of collaboration, and embraced the pursuit of knowledge.”

Fellow DIA student, Kshiteez says that it was extracurricular opportunities that made a real difference:

“I think getting into UPenn was a culmination of efforts from my school, my teachers, my parents and myself. IB DP is very rigorous that required me to put in 3-4 hours out of school day. Obviously, academics are really important, but I believe the real differentiating factor for my application was the school-funded Lunar Rover Prototype building project that I was a part of, in which I demonstrated my ability to apply my engineering skills. I had to put in extra hours but overall I am delighted with the final outcome.”

Meanwhile another student, Prateeti, agrees that the balance of academics with extracurricular activities helped her succeed:

“Reflecting back, DP was definitely a demanding program, and took a lot of all-nighters and extra effort, but I’m glad to have had the support of my teachers, my school and my parents. I am also thankful for the collaborative community I have found at DIA, and the emphasis on balance between academics and extracurriculars. I was encouraged to invest my time outside academics into organizations like DIA’s women in STEM society, and the makers club, where I helped build a semiautonomous lunar rover. Managing rigorous academics with extracurriculars seems daunting, but with the right support, I think anyone can do it.”

Michelle Puxty, Head of Secondary School, agrees with the students, and emphasizes the holistic nature of the DIA education:

“We recognise that education is not solely about academic achievement but encompasses the development of well-rounded individuals. Our comprehensive curriculum combines rigorous academic standards with a broad range of co-curricular activities, ensuring that students receive a balanced education that cultivates their talents, interests, and character.

“We believe in the power of a global mindset and aim to create global citizens who are prepared to navigate the complexities of an interconnected world.”

“Our multicultural environment celebrates diversity, encourages cross-cultural understanding, and promotes open-mindedness.

“Through various international programs, exchanges, and collaborations, we expose our students to different perspectives, cultures, and ideas, fostering their adaptability and preparing them to thrive in a diverse society.

“Our classrooms are vibrant spaces where creativity is encouraged, critical thinking is fostered, and problem-solving skills are honed, allowing your child to unleash their full potential.

On how this culture pays off in terms of future university destinations, Ms Puxty says:

“The students have received brilliant placements this year with a scholarship amount crossing US$ 9 million (42% of the class has received Scholarship). 100 students have received acceptances among the Top 50 QS World ranking universities. Ivy League & Oxbridge placements include: Columbia, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Cambridge and University of Oxford.

“Other leading university placements include: Imperial College, London School of Economics, University College London, The University of Edinburgh, King’s College London, The University of Manchester, University of California Berkeley, University of California Los Angeles, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, New York University, McGill University, University of Toronto, and University of British Columbia.”
