Watch! Back to School 2023. Warning issued. AI Crossings and Road Safety is Coming to Dubai to Keep Children Safe – but Drivers Must Still Think…

It is so many years ago now (in fact 7 years to be precise…), but, for one week, between the twelfth of May and nineteenth of May in 2016, a special traffic crossing, “The Human Crossing”, was built by Volkswagen Middle East, in conjunction with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority and Smart Dubai, outside Gems Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis.

The project was designed to make us all think.

It remains in our view one of the most high impact, thought provoking and emotional, ways ever created in Dubai to make all of us understand why we must take care when driving.

On the first day of Back to School 2023 we thought we would look back – to look forward, and keep our children safe.

“The Human Crossing” may not still exist out side GEMS Wellington International DSO today, and other Smarter systems are now being rolled out across Dubai – technology changes, and advances. 14 AI Smart Pedestrian Crossing systems have been installed in DSO only this year.

But…

This is the only campaign we have seen to date, in the most powerful way, that recognises that we have responsibilities as drivers too, no matter what AI solutions may be implemented to do the work for us.

Children crossing the road are people.

They have names.

They have their own stories.

And with all our help, and concentration, and care, they will have their whole lives ahead of them to tell those stories, and make new ones, tomorrow.
