Watch! Mothers and Daughters Speak on the Power of Education as a Force for Good

Family First. Mothers and daughters from GEMS World Academy in Dubai have released an extraordinary, and inspirational film as part of International Women’s Day 2024, sharing their thoughts in wide-ranging, hope-filled conversations on gender equality, one heartfelt conversation at a time:

Family First

Mothers and Daughters at GEMS World Academy Dubai discuss the future as part of International Women's Day in 2024

The film is part of the global Family First movement developed by GEMS Education with the support of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. The movement, the first of its kind anywhere in the world, places family at the heart of education, and society, in the UAE – and globally.

The aim, and bigger picture, is to re-inspire a recognition of the centrifugal importance of the bonds of family, these increasingly threatened and destabilised by social changes, economic pressures and cultural impetuses which have seen families fragment, the model of the nuclear family questioned and grandparents, in particular, often side-lined. Some of the pressures on family too have been felt most strongly by expat parents who have relocated to the UAE – and again these are felt powerfully by children. Without the strength of family connections, and connectedness, it becomes ever more difficult to understand who we are and give meaning to our lives – and this is true for both children and adults.

International Women’s Day

The video is the latest in an extraordinary series of films produced by GEMS World Academy Dubai each year to recognise and celebrate women.
