Safa Community School is celebrating beyond-outstanding A Level, BTEC and AS Level results, shattering the already outstanding results achieved by students last year.

In 2022, Safa Community School students achieved 36% of all grades at A*- A. In 2023 this increased to 43% of Safa Community School students achieving 36% of all grades at A*- A. A remarkable 64% of all grades attained were at A*-B.

Michael Davies, Head of Secondary, Safa Community School told SchoolsCompared:

“As we celebrate our 10th year of operation, we are overwhelmed by the fantastic results our students have achieved this year. The opening of our new senior building in 2022 was designed to offer enhanced curriculum opportunities set within world-class facilities to drive attainment and outcomes.”

Mr Davies continued:

“Our core subjects (Maths, English and Sciences) continue to surpass expectations every year. A-level Further Maths attained a 100% grade A pass rate, with a large A-level Maths cohort attaining a 92% A*-C. Chemistry continues to thrive at SCS, with 83% of all grades at A*-A.

“Economics, English, Art, History, and German delivered staggering figures of 100% A*-B for the entire cohort. This is a testament to the support from our parental community, student endeavour and our highly skilled and committed staff body.”

The school, recognised this year by SchoolsCompared for the exceptional quality of its Sixth Form provision and culture of happiness, has also announced significant expansion of its Sixth Form pathways. Mr Davies explained:

“We are adding additional courses for 2023/24 in an ever-changing job market and landscape. Media Studies, Sociology and Engineering will complement our exam pathways.”

Safa Community Schools breadth of pathways has reaped dividends:

“The diversity of the offering at SCS is something we are very proud of. Internships, BTECs, LAMDA, and RSL Contemporary Arts Award have supported traditional examination courses. RSL was our newest course, where 100% of students attained a Distinction Star. On behalf of the governing body, staff and all support teams at SCS, I would like to thank and praise our students’ dedication publicly, across-the-board, for their extraordinary success this year.”

Emmet Glackin, Deputy Headteacher, Safa Community School, continued:

“We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved this year at A-Level, especially considering that this cohort did not sit formal GCSE examinations in 2021 due to restrictions around COVID. As a school, we have seen a considerable amount of progress in our already outstanding overall grades in comparison to previous years, which is a testament to the hard work and, in many respects, the ‘above and beyond’ approach from our staff, providing students with a platform for success. The same can be said for our students sitting AS Levels in Year 12 who are now in a great position going into their final year at Safa Community School.”

Speaking with SchoolsCompared, Leanne Fridd, Principal, Safa Community School, focused on the achievements, against significant odds, of SCS students and teachers:

“As a school community, we are exceptionally proud of what our students and staff have achieved in both their 2023 A Level and BTEC Results.

“In Year 13 and Year 12, this cohort of students has had an arduous journey over the past four years. They have worked exceptionally hard, always focusing on the end result. We are so proud of each of them, and we can’t wait to see their future achievements beyond Safa Community School.

“I would like to congratulate the secondary leadership team and teaching staff who have worked tirelessly to support our senior students throughout their sixth-form journey. Giving up weekends, evenings and school holidays to prepare the students really has paid off.

“A special thanks to Mr Mike Davies, Mr Emmet Glackin and Mrs Jenni O’Donnell for their leadership and for always taking a student-centred approach when educating our senior students. As a growing secondary school, it has been great to see that standards and attainment levels exceed expectations yearly.”

Safa Community School A Level Results 2023

Ms. Jennifer O’Donnell, Head of Sixth Form, Safa Community School, asked us to recognise the many challenges facing students this year. The results achieved by them, in this context, are genuinely extraordinary and special:

“As Head of Sixth Form, I have watched this cohort of students grow and excel under very challenging circumstances due to the global pandemic. They have excelled in their studies, and I am very proud to have been a part of their journey towards personal actualisation. Every student deserves praise, as the A Level journey is challenging.

“There are a number of students who have shown enormous tenacity and resilience as they strove to be the very best that they could be and who made personal sacrifices to be able to achieve the very best grades. Our students have benefitted from an excellent pastoral structure whereby student wellbeing was closely monitored and by small class sizes and a personalised approach, with many students receiving additional contact time with members of staff.”

In a year in which many pundits expected girls to be hardest hit by the move to plunge grades to 2019 levels, the achievement of young women at Safa Community Schools is all the more remarkable. Ms O’Donnell continues:

“Our female students have really excelled this year, and some of our success stories include Hana Haridy, a student who has been at Safa Community School since Year 8, achieved an astonishing 3 A* grades in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry and who will be attending The American University in Sharjah to study Chemical Engineering.”

  • Taline Chahine achieved an impressive 1 A* and 2 A’s in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and will attend Eindhoven University of Technology to study Chemical Engineering.
  • Esha Amin, a student at Safa Community School since Year 7, achieved 2 A*’s and 1 B in Mathematics, Biology and Geography and will be attending The University of York to study Environmental Science.
  • Eylul Sisman, a student at Safa Community School since Year 8, achieved 2 A’s and 1 B and will attend The University of Edinburgh to study Fine Art.
