Top Schools Awards 2023 - 2024 Best Arabic International Curriculum School in the UAE 2023 -2024

Below is the official entry form for the Top Schools Award in the United Arab Emirates for Best Blended Arabic International Curriculum School 2023-24, our award recognising schools offering the most outstanding integration of Arabic curriculum subjects within an international curriculum school in the UAE, and its recognition of the many knock-on positive impacts of this on the lives of children.

We have broadened our definition of the Award this year to focus on all schools offering any one of the array of international curricular, for its outstanding achievements in, and recognition of the importance of, Arabic subjects including the teaching of the Arabic language.

Integrating the teaching of Arabic subjects within an international school is hugely complex. Some schools give up entirely on even trying to deliver these subjects. Others, to some lesser or greater degree, play lip service to the provision of Arabic subjects, but, for the most part, downgrade their investment in this area relative to other “more important” subject areas.

We believe that this represents both a mistake and a clear “loss” for students. Of course, not all students are linguists – and will struggle in all languages. But we believe that every child deserves to have the real opportunity, relative to their own gifts, to broaden their horizons and become immersed in understanding and appreciating the wonders of the Arabic world, its historic and contemporary contribution to knowledge, culture and global affairs – and so take from the UAE a USP that will stand them in good stead for university applications, engaging with others, and thriving in their careers as they progress through their lives and, themselves, make a contribution to making a better more understanding world.

This Award is then, designed to celebrate those schools that take Arabic subjects seriously, believe in their value – and do all they can to bring this area of the curriculum alive for every child.

This will be a school, and it may be an all-through, a nursery/Early Years, or a primary school, that sparkles with imagination and ambition in the way it teaches Arabic subjects for all their students, one with a warmth that engenders the passion of teachers and the adoration of children and parents alike. And, finally, it will be a school that ensures that every graduating student can speak with others with knowledge and passion about the Arabic world when they leave the school to start the next chapter of their lives, whether in later schooling, university or industry, each empowered with the values and confidence to make a positive impact in the world before them.

This year, the Top Schools Awards are celebrating outstanding achievement in our schools with a particular focus on how schools inspire children by linking all subject areas to bring the extraordinary wonders of the Arts, creativity, imagination – and freedom to experiment and innovate, into all areas of the curriculum including, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

We believe, passionately, that the Arts are absolutely fundamental to delivering an outstanding education for every child, one focused on the whole child and the gifts all children have to change the world for the better and make the difference – every day, and in the future. The Arts bring STEM to life.

In November 2023, members of the TSA Space and Rocket programme completed first phase testing of the Imagination^TMpowered Jet Pack specially manufactured for this year’s STEAM focused Awards. We visited a number of the region’s most outstanding schools. We are particularly grateful for the assistance of the extraordinary and accredited Rocket Pilot and Space Girl Lottie from Safa Community School(pictured) for her considerable, and quite, totally, awesome, bravery and kindness in completing rocket pack inaugural flight testing.

Without her, and those many other children we visited across the UAE, none of this would have been possible. They made us… believe.
