Age of children: All through
School size: 1878

A very special, historically important school celebrating its fiftieth anniversary next year.
One of the “Ivy League” not-for-profits, it is to all intents and purposes governed and owned by past and existing parents with strategic input from the British Ambassador and school Leadership. The British School Al Khubairat has an exceptional reputation in Science – but offers a very impressive spectrum of subjects across the Arts, as well as BTEC technical stream subjects, including Engineering, coming on stream this year.
Given its history the bright modern school will come as a surprise – it is impressive, particularly if you catch one of the many mini expos or Art Exhibitions that take pride of place in the main school lobby. There’s a dynamic sense of purpose that strikes you on entering the school; children are impassioned about their subjects and the school encourages exploration beyond the syllabus rather than restricting children to ticking curriculum boxes.
Small class sizes at A Level in the humanities are one of its best kept secrets, but the whole in the case of the British School Al Khubairat is more than the sum of its parts. There is a sense of prestige about the school and a resulting sense of pride in being part of its community that is rare. We would like to see the same sort of academic passion so clearly evident in the school applied to an appreciation of the school’s historic Arabic context – and the school is investing heavily in this area now.
The British School Al Khubairat was borne of community and very special investment by the Abu Dhabi and British governments. That carries weighty responsibility. The British School Al Khubairat is newly alive to this in a plethora of new investment, initiatives and innovation. A special school already is now beginning to sparkle as it sets out on very much a new journey to re-discover its heart. It is one too in our view highly deserving of its place within the top-10 schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi 2017.

Parents should note that The British School Al Khubairat offers an exceptional range of 26 different subject options at A Level and, launched this year (2017), is the only school currently in Abu Dhabi to offer the BTEC Diploma, this available in Engineering, Sport and Business Studies. The BTEC in Engineering is a first for the UAE. Our view is that the provision of BTEC is reflective of a school deeply committed to ensuring it is able to provide for the broadest range of students ambition, ability and gifts – and is forward thinking in understanding the future of impact of T Levels and the significance of Technical Education within the post Industrial economy.
