Art Exhibition launches to celebrate the Fiftieth Anniversary of the United Arab Emirates

A stunning Art Exhibition has been launched online by The British School Al Khubairat [BSAK] as part of celebrations concluding the UAE’s 50th anniversary.

The UAE’s Fiftieth was designed for “everyone who calls the UAE home” and commemorated 50 years since the nation’s founding in 1971.

The British School Al Khubairat Exhibition, which offers 100% free entry through the link below, has been put together with inspirational art works from children and young people from every phase of school life, from Primary through Secondary to Sixth Form.

The British School Al Khubairat, based in Abu Dhabi, is consistently rated by SchoolsCompared in the top five of all schools in the UAE.

The exhibition, which is in three parts, is themed around a celebration of UK and UAE creativity, culture, heritage and values. The importance of inclusion and being accepting of all children – something ethically centre stage at BSAK, is reflected in both the Art works and contributing artists.

The British School Al Khubairat was a unanimous winner of The SchoolsCompared Top Schools Award for Best School in the United Arab Emirates for Art and Creative Studio Work 2021-2022, one of the most contested categories in the Awards – and one fundamental to schools committed to supporting a whole child curriculum for students. The School offers a wide-ranging, hugely inspirational Art curriculum through Primary phase until Y9 – and is the only school in the region to offer Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography as discreet GCSE and A Level courses. This is augmented by an extraordinary breadth of co-curricular related Art provision at the school.

The British School Al Khubairat was additionally awarded The SchoolsCompared Top Schools Award for Best School for Post-16 Education in the United Arab Emirates 2021-2022.

Dan Emery, Head of Art, The British School Al Khubairat, told us:

“The promotion of Art options – and our  decision to make a full range available, demonstrates the school’s absolute commitment to meeting the needs of all students. Whatever, their goals and aspirations in Art, the Faculty of Art drives our students to exceed expectations and strive towards fulfilling their individual artistic ambitions.

BSAK students have successfully moved to renowned Art courses in higher Education globally, including Central St Martins, Falmouth, Leeds, Bath and New York.

Our students are award winning in their own right, including recognition in COBIS logo design, the Unified Special Olympics – and the school was selected as a beacon school to create community art for ADGM.”

The Exhibition also recognises the exceptional investment made by BSAK in Art. The Art Department has one of the highest per-student budgets in the school, this level of budget commitment rare in UAE schools – and demonstrative of the value and importance that the school gives to Art provision. Students benefit from dedicated art studios and a multi use, adaptive gallery space ensuring all students’ work is celebrated in a professional environment with regular internal and external exhibitions. A dedicated full-time Art Technician supports studio based processes and studio technical assistance to all years.

The school has a large number of ongoing collaborative and UNIFIED art partnerships. These include: The British Council (Year of Creative Collaboration Regeneration), The British Embassy, The Future Centre (art-winning design for The Special Olympics World Games), COBIS (Winning logo design) Warehouse 421 (International Art Gallery and exhibition space – lead school in Abu Dhabi school student exhibition – New Beginnings) and The British Club (Young Artists and Designers).

Fine Art/Graphic Design/Photography students achieve a value added of +1.3 GCSE grades, over one whole grade higher than baseline assessments indicated – top 5% of all schools. Examination outcomes at GCSE and A Level are stellar.

The Art patron of The British School Al Khubairat is Dr. Hamed Bin Mohamed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Founder and President of Abu Dhabi Art Society.

Headmaster of The British School Al Khubairat is Mr. Mark Leppard MBE.

The ADEK and BSO ranked Outstanding school is resolutely not-for-profit. It was founded in 1968 and built on land generously donated by the founding president of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Since 1980 the school has been sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, The President of the UAE.
