On a day of extraordinary emotion, GEMS Wellington Oasis today recognised arguably the most historic generation of GCSE students in history – those who have endured challenges that no student should be expected to because of Covid-19 – and because the UK qualifications regulator, OFQUAL, has come down so hard on GCSE results this year. And yet, against all odds, today the students from GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis, achieved beyond exceptionally, not just in terms of results – but on their own terms.

31% of GEMS Wellington Academy students achieved GCSE grades of 9-8/A* and, impressively, 48 per cent of student at 9-7/A*-A.

A proud and deeply moved Sarah O’Regan, Chief Executive Officer and Principal of GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis, told SchoolsCompared:

“Everybody at WSO is so incredibly proud of this historic group of students.

They have succeeded so well, irrespective of the challenges that we all know they have had to face.

This set of results are a testament to their hard work and focus, the loving support of their families, and the diligent guidance of their teachers and all staff here at WSO.

It’s always a special and uplifting day, to see students receive the key to the next phase of the educational journey – and we are most proud of the fact that the vast majority of these students are choosing to continue this journey with us.

Whether taking A-Levels, IBDP, BTEC or one of our bespoke programmes, there is a path for every one of them here.

We are excited to help them continue to write their own stories and realise their ambitions.”

Jemma Arnold, Head of Secondary School at GEMS Wellington Academy DSO celebrates the achievement of GCSE students in 2022
Jemma Arnold, Head of Year 11, GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis, continued:
“We are absolutely delighted for our Year 11 students to receive their GCSE results today.
They are the first cohort since 2019 to sit the exams and be able to collect their results in this celebratory way and it is all so very well deserved.
They have faced so many uncertainties over the past two and a half years and have been an absolute credit to themselves and to WSO throughout this journey.
What they have come through is unprecedented and today was a joy to see!”

“Congratulations to all our GCSE students, who have performed incredibly well and delivered a stellar set of results.

Our students are surpassing the UK national average and every single one of them, regardless of their grades, should be proud of their achievements.

Their excellent set of results will stand them in good stead as they move on to the next exciting stage of their academic journey at their schools.

These GCSE results bring to a close an impressive school exam season that has seen pupils from across GEMS’ different curricula put the challenges of the pandemic well behind them and press on towards their aspirations with a positive and confident attitude.”
