No Let up. Omicron Restrictions Continue in all Dubai Schools. KHDA Confirm.
The KHDA have officially confirmed that there will be no let up to the stringent restrictions in place across all Dubai schools – and that these are likely to remain in place until at least the end of January.
“All PE lessons, organised trips, events and internal gatherings, such assemblies and performances, should be put on hold.
Extra-curricular activities taking place at school, either within or outside of official hours, should be put on hold.
Canteens or cafeterias must be closed and shared eating spaces not be used.”
KHDA. 13 January 2022.
The restrictions come as the UAE faces continuing aggression from the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Whilst definitively milder in impact than previous variants including Delta, the sheer scale of infections needs to be managed to ensure that hospitals are not overwhelmed and the most vulnerable are protected.
“These rules are in place to minimise the spread of Covid-19, and to ensure that students are still able to benefit from face-to-face learning.”
KHDA. 13 January 2022.
The KHDA, as other school regulators, are battling with the two competing demands of needing to keep schools open and face-to-face learning happening, with trying to restrict the spread of the most infectious Covid-19 variant to date.
There is now widespread recognition that the very last thing to give up is in-school learning; no one wants another lockdown, least of all schools, parents and children. The damage that results from lockdowns, particularly but not exclusively on the education of children, is well documented.
This is a fast moving story and we will update it as further news is released.
