The English College students shatter barriers and exceed target grades with “staggering” record GCSE results

by Tabitha BardaAugust 24, 2022

Students at The English College have smashed down every obstacle in their path to achieve a magnificent set of GCSE results never before seen at the Dubai-based school.

Emily Hopkinson – Head of Secondary School told SchoolsCompared:

Overall, a staggering 73% of grades across all subjects were awarded at grades 9-6, meaning 73% of grade were the equivalent of grade B, A, A* or “A**”.”

“The volume of Grade 9’s (equivalent to A**) awarded across the cohort was a massive 137. These grades far surpass the grades gained in 2019 (the last year that external examinations were sat) and are our best set of external examination results ever.”

As a non-selective, inclusive school, these grades are all the more impressive, adds Ms Hopkinson:

“Our value added data is even more impressive with students far surpassing their target grades. We cannot explain just how proud we are of this year 11 cohort who have worked with diligence and determination to smash down every barrier they have faced. Congratulations and thank you to our whole community – parents, staff and students – who have truly earned this magnificent set of results.”

“We are proud to say that we continue to be a non-selective school. This means that our extraordinary attainment results come from students with a broad range of talents and abilities, proving that whatever your starting point you can succeed with us at English College.”

Being a school that values community above all else, parents and families were invited to come into the school today to receive students’ results in person.

“Something that makes EC really special is our community. We want to take this opportunity to thank not just our students for all of their hard work but also their loving parents who have been integral to success with their unwavering support, as well as the diligence and commitment of our fantastic teachers.”
