Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabia Ranches (JESS) today celebrates another brilliant set of GCSE exam results with nearly 50% of the cohort achieving the highest Grades 9/8. However, in a thoughtful intervention, JESS Director Shane O’ Brien says that we must look beyond results, however amazing they are collectively, to students individually, each of which has their own remarkable story. They are all different, all with highs and lows – and bundling results together risks losing the real value of each student’s two-year journey towards today’s awarding of their results. The toughest year for GCSE since records began, each and every students deserves the utmost respect. What they have each achieved, individually, is unique, historic, very special, creditable and extraordinary.

Mr O’ Brien, speaking with SchoolsCompared, explained:

“As a school community we are incredibly proud of the performance of all of our students who received their GCSE exam results yesterday.

From those that gained top marks, to those who persevered and pushed beyond their potential, all deserve our praise and recognition – well done.

While the focus will be on final results, it is so important to think of the journey; two already challenging years compounded with the impact of COVID meant this group of students have shown impressive resilience.”

Mr O’ Brien went on to stress the community that underpins life at JESS – the ethical underpinning of student life that sees students working together. He continued:

Over these two years they have risen to the challenge together and should rightly be proud of what they achieved together.

Well done Year 11 – amazing GCSE results and we can’t wait to see you continue your journey in JESS Sixth Form and beyond.”

Finally, Mr O’ Brien explained that he sees the return to a normal year of examinations as a positive as we all rebuild our lives in the aftermath of the worst of the Covid years. His message is that now is the time to look forward:

“It is so satisfying to receive a set of results achieved by sitting ‘real’ exams. These students have conducted their entire two years of GCSE study under COVID conditions so these results are a celebration, and all students should be congratulated on their commitment and determination.”

With all staff and new students on site today, coinciding with the excitement of the release of these results, the anticipation and excitement for the new school year at JESS is palpable.”

JESS Arabian Ranches students absolutely jojful on GCSE Results Day 2022

Ecstatic, and justifiably proud JESS students, share, together, their results -and excitement about graduating to JESS Sixth Form, with a very proud school, fellow students and delighted parents.

Mike Waller, Head of Secondary, Jumeirah English Speaking School, responded:

“I am looking forward to the coming days as we have a chance to reflect on the individual success stories.

Amongst the JESS cohort there will be plenty of smiles as they think of the determination they showed and the reward that has been reaped.

As a school we will also have time to consider the part that we play in supporting students and ensure that we continue to improve in offering an outstanding education.

These results have set an excellent platform for students as they prepare for their senior years of study and while today is an important milestone on the journey, there is still a long path ahead. I look forward to seeing them challenge themselves into the future and take the lessons they learn in school to make a difference in the world.”
