“Anu Pisa provided by far the best narrative of any of our entries. Her photography and words, delivered as poetry, capture extraordinarily well the gamut of feelings of returning to school and the very first day that a child leaves his or her parents.
Told from the perspective of the child, her words and photographs have a clear sense of a beginning, middle and end and captures both the feelings of parents and children.
The photograph of older children locked into the screens of their phones captures so well how quickly the meaning of the First Day transforms for older children, and how quickly children grow up. Judge John
