GEMS World Academy – Dubai, has announced the Class of 2023 graduates in the International Baccalaureate Baccalaureate Diploma and Courses programmes, and the school is celebrating their achievement as an inspirational showcase for how outstanding teachers, and a school underpinned by the ethics of inclusion and internationalism, can inspire the engagement and success of almost every child welcomed to their school. Too often it is argued, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is treated as the preserve of an academic elite, this driven in no small part by many school’s reluctance to permit less academic students who wish to study the IB Diploma from doing so because it risks losing them places in academic league tables, or because it is the “less easy” option than believing in the extraordinary of capacity to learn and excel – and the equally extraordinary capacity of empowered teachers to inspire the very best from children. GEMS World Academy believes that the Diploma should be offered as an extraordinary tool of empowerment for young men and women, one opening doors to any numbers of Tier One universities and industries globally.

SchoolsCompared spoke with Dr Saima Rana, CEO/Principal, GEMS World Academy – Dubai and asked her about the very different, and more inclusive approach, she has established at one of GEMS Education’s flagship schools in the UAE. Dr Rana told us:

“GEMS World Academy – Dubai is unique in having 85% of our 110+ graduating students participating in the full Diploma Programme. This inclusive approach to the IBDP means students are not ‘streamed’ but are given an opportunity to participate in what we believe is the gold standard in education – no matter their starting point.

This approach is made possible by our team of educators who have worked tirelessly to support students in reaching academic success both inside and outside the classroom.”

On a day that GEMS World Academy celebrates the outstanding achievements of so many IB students, we asked her how she would best capture their achievements. Dr Rana explained:

“We are immensely proud of our 2023 DP cohort at GEMS World Academy – Dubai. We look forward to celebrating our students’ success as they head off to a number of prestigious post-secondary institutions around the world.

As a Centre of Excellence for Mother Tongue Languages, Elite Athletics, and Entrepreneurship, we are particularly proud of how this has reflected in our exceptional results in Language A, Sports Science, and Business Management outcomes.
