School size: 1253

It is interesting that Kings’ School’s Al Barsha all-through has stolen a march on its KHDA Outstanding feeder in our Top 20, but all of the Kings’ schools are, for us,  quite exceptional schools.

The focus for us is on launching Sixth Form provision – and the choice of subjects on offer is genuinely impressive. Kings’ School Al Barsha has chosen to focus on giving its students an extraordinary breadth of offer of A Level options in lieu of BTEC streams.

We would like to see however is BTEC added to the offer as we believe it is both strategically important in the context of T Levels launching in 2019 – but also as a subject group that enables schools to better meet the ambitions, needs and abilities of the broadest range of students.

Prospective parents should not be dissuaded from shortlisting Kings’ School Al Barsha by its first Good rating from the KHDA. While schools can be awarded an Outstanding rating in their first inspection, it rarely happens – most schools need time to build up evidence of high performance and attainment over a number of inspections. Both the Nad Al Sheba and Al Barsha schools are however, at least in our view, outstanding schools in the making.

For academically gifted children, the Kings’ schools are extremely good  options and, at least currently, the investment in school expansion has created new capacity and opportunities for children that were once very limited.

Kings’ School Al Barsha Examination results

2017

IGCSE

44% A*A

92% A*C

Parents should note that these (we believe admirable) results reflect the first cohort of IGCSE students at the school following its founding in 2014.
